What you'll be doing
As Lead Front End Developer will be involved across a number of high profile projects, working predominantly with our Front End team, but also acting as a link to other teams within the business.
At Building Blocks, we don't like to find a working formula and stick to it. We're always looking to change and adapt to deliver the best for our clients and to keep our team engaged. An important part of your role will be to lead our front end team in defining their direction in the ever-changing technical landscape.
Although you will be spending a large portion of your time delivering work for clients, you'll be expected to also line manage and mentor the team as well as promote the team internally.
What we need from you
We're looking for Lead Front End Developer who can do just that - lead a team of experienced developers and push them to continually deliver the best quality work for our clients.
You will need to have extensive experience in web development using both standard and emerging technologies and be able to integrate new approaches and technologies into the team when required.
You must be wlling to manage more junior team members and support them in their growth and career development so some experienece in this or a real drive to take on this reponsibility is a must. You also need to be able to direct your team in ways that also support the ambitions of the business.
Although we expect our developers of all levels to be client facing, you will be the first point of senior contact for clients with relation to our front end work, so you need to be keen to work with clients and be focused on ensuring that we're doing the work they require.
Most of our clients and our sister agencies are based outside of the UK so at times some travel is required for on-site meetings with clients. It's a great way of getting out of the office, seeing the world and meeting new people.
We use a number of technologies day-to-day but here are some of the key areas that you must have significant experience in:
- HTML and CSS
- CSS Preprocessors
- Templating (eg. Handlebars, Mustache)
- Developing in a modular, responsive fashion
- Development tooling (eg. Task runners, dependency management)
- Source control processes using Git
- SPA's (eg. ReactJS, Angular)
- Developing to accessibility guidelines
- Building for CMS implementations
