Building Blocks help global companies solve complex problems with digital technologies. We work with clients to identify digital opportunities that will increase revenues, develop relationships and improve efficiencies. Our design, technical and operational expertise then put those opportunities into practice - rapidly, reliably and at global scale.
We have always worked with ambitious organisations who offer their products and services internationally. We understand the need to balance centralised consistency with local flexibility and offerings to support the specific goals of local market teams. We have rolled out 100’s of websites in over 100 different local countries.
Building Blocks is part of Dept - an international network of leading digital agencies. From our offices across Europe and the US, 600 of the most talented and experienced people in our industry combine creativity, technology and data to deliver digital products and services that build brands, grow businesses and make people’s lives easier.
Dept is made up of the agencies TamTam, Expand Online, a friend of mine, Second Degree, Building Blocks, Studio Dumbar, Be Excellent, Trust Agents, Unskippable, ebrella, Tricode and Webfactory. The network has 600 employees, a combined turnover of over €60 million, and offices in Germany, UK, US, the Netherlands and Spain.
What you'll be doing
All junior developers joining Building Blocks start in the DOS (Digital Operations Services) Team. The DOS team form the foundations of Building Blocks as an organisation. They are responsible for supporting a large number of clients across an array of services from development of small scale projects, development of additional features to existing client sites, bug fixing, release management and technical support issues.
The DOS team is where you learn your trade and where you get the greatest experience of all the technologies we use. You will be given intensive training and support while you learn to deepen your technical skills and knowledge. You will be taught and work with the latest tools. This is a varied role where you will be working on a different piece of work each day.
What we need from you
We're looking for Junior developers with some commercial experience in building web applications who want to work in a fast paced digital environment with a global scale. You will need to have some exposure to C# - university or personal projects are fine!
You need to be hungry to keep learning and to always strive to deliver the best solutions for our clients working both within your team and also working individually. To do this, you will need to be willing to keep your eye on the latest emerging technologies as well as building your skills on current technology to ensure that we're keeping to best practice within the industry.
Most of our clients and our sister agencies are based outside of the UK so at times some travel is required for on-site meetings with clients. It's a great way of getting out of the office, seeing the world, meeting new people and most importantly, developing your face to face skills with clients.
We use a number of technologies day-to-day but here are some of the key ones that you'll get regular exposure to:
- C# .Net
- SDL Tridion / SDL Web
- Cloud Infrastructure - AWS / Azure
- CI tools and processes (TeamCity, Octopus, Bitbucket Pipelines, VSTS, Unicorn, SonarQube)
- Code management (Git, GitFlow)
What Building Blocks will do for you
We know things can get busy when working across multiple projects for multiple clients and we know everyone pulls together to get things delivered right first time. It's only fair we give something back so we offer the following perks to everyone who comes to work with us:
- Well defined progression path to help you grow your career at Building Blocks
- Beer Friday - at 4pm on a Friday, the beer fridge is unlocked and you can have free beer
- Pizza Friday - once a month, we buy pizzas for everyone in the office to celebrate everyone's hard work
- Site launch lunches - a great way to celebrate a go-live with the team who made it happen and BB pick up the tab.
- Break Room - with comfy sofas, an XBox, music and a pool table
- Free soft drinks, tea and coffee - all day every day
- Quarterly social budget
- Yearly trip to the Dept Festival in the Netherlands - a chance to meet other people within the other Dept agencies, see great talks from industry leaders and a great weekend of fun!
- Exposure to all disciplines within the company - working with varied technologies, Quality Assurance, Content Entry and Project Management
- Yearly bonus scheme
- Pension scheme
- Free private healthcare
- An excellent salary based on experience
