What you'll be doing
As a Front End Developer will be involved across a number development projects, working predominantly on developing modular, responsive sites, but also working closely with other teams within the business.
You'll be expected to take pride in your work and be keen to work closely with clients to provide an expert opinion on their requirements and requests, before working to build applications to meet and exceed these.
Although you will be spending a large portion of your time delivering work for clients, you'll be expected to work closely with your team to continue to improve our processes and select new technologies that we should be investing time in.
What we need from you
We're looking for Front End Developer who can continually deliver the best quality work for our clients. Someone who can see a problem as a challenge to be solved and work hard to produce approaches and code that work.
You will need to have good experience in web development using both standard and emerging technologies and be able to help integrate new approaches and technologies into the team when required.
We expect our developers of all levels to be client facing, so you need to be keen to work with clients and be focused on ensuring that we're doing the work they require.
Most of our clients and our sister agencies are based outside of the UK so at times some travel is required for on-site meetings with clients. It's a great way of getting out of the office, seeing the world and meeting new people.
We use a number of technologies day-to-day but here are some of the key areas that you must have good experience in:
- HTML and CSS
- CSS Preprocessors
- Templating (eg. Handlebars, Mustache)
- Developing in a modular, responsive fashion
- Development tooling (eg. Task runners, dependency management)
- Source control processes using Git
Experience in the following areas is also desirable:
- SPA's (eg. ReactJS, Angular)
- Developing to accessibility guidelines
- Building for CMS implementations

- Beer Friday - at 4pm on a Friday, the beer fridge is unlocked and you can have free beer

- Site launch lunches - a great way to celebrate a go-live with the team who made it happen and BB pick up the tab.
- Break Room - with comfy sofas, an XBox, music and a pool table
- Free soft drinks, tea and coffee - all day every day
- Quarterly social budget
- Yearly trip to the Dept Festival in the Netherlands - a chance to meet other people within the other Dept agencies, see great talks from industry leaders and a great weekend of fun!
- Exposure to all disciplines within the company - working with varied technologies, Quality Assurance, Content Entry and Project Management
- Yearly bonus scheme
- Pension scheme
- Free private healthcare
- An excellent salary based on experience
